Stumbling across a quaint, local bakery has always yielded positive results, and this most recent instance was no exception. While on a brief vacation back home, we managed to wander over to a local cake shop, Patty’s Cakes and Desserts, in Fullerton, California. A small, charmingly decorated store greeted us along with the friendly face behind the counter. Created by Patty and Philip, a mother-son duo devoted to bringing the joy of cakes to the masses, they smiled and invited us in as if into their own home. As we looked at the myriad of cupcakes available on the menu and placed our order, the feature that struck my mother, my girlfriend and I was that the cupcakes are freshly frosted per each individual order. They fixed a problem that had never even crossed my worried mind, stale cupcakes. By simply grabbing the freshly made cupcake and frosting them upon request, the cupcakes that you order in the afternoon are of the same quality as the ones ordered at 10 o’clock in the morn. Brilliant, yet so simple.
We each ordered a different cupcake. The Lemon Colada, the Peanut Butter Pretzel, and a chocolate cupcake with Chambord mousse happily arrived at our table, and as we sipped on some refreshing orange water, the fun began. The cake was moist, the frosting light and delicious, and the presentation was sharp and quite charming. On top of the tasty cupcakes, they specialize in custom designed cakes for any event and also have these interesting looking treats known as cake balls.
I look forward to my next visit to try these little delights, and I’m sure I’ll be well pleased. It’s important to support small local businesses, especially ones that do an exceptional job.
